Juice and the Young Professionals Connection announced four recipients of the 2016 YP of the Year Awards on Thursday, Febraury 9, 2017. The awards are an annual event that recognize young professionals who have dedicated the past year to increasing the livelihood of the Des Moines Metro in various ways. Two Newton Young Professionals, Jessica Lowe and Nathan Unsworth, came home with YP16 awards.

Jessica Lowe, Executive Director of the United Way of Jasper County, won the YPC Ashley Okland YP Community Service Award. This award is given to a YP who exemplifies the volunteerism and spirit of late YPC board member Ashley Okland in giving of his/her time, talents and other resources to community organizations.

“Winning this Ashley Oakland Community Service Award and having the opportunity to represent my community is a humbling honor. I am so thankful for the opportunities that Jasper County has given me.” Lowe told the Newton Daily News. “I’m dedicated to giving back to my community that has given me so much.”

Nathan Unsworth, City of Newton Parks Administrative Superintendent, won the Amy Jennings YP Impact Award. This award is given to a YP who demonstrates a dedication to creating a vibrant community that attracts and retains young professionals.

“It was a huge honor tonight to be one of the four awarded winners. It was even better to represent Newton and to share this moment with my good friend, Jessica Lowe,” Unsworth told the Newton Daily News. “I am really proud of what all the young professionals are accomplishing in and around Jasper County and am excited to see us receive regional recognition. Young professionals have the unique ability to make an impact in Central Iowa, and I am so happy to see people seize that opportunity.”
