SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11 & SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 12 – GREATER NEWTON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NEWTON HOLIDAY RETAIL OPEN HOUSE

Get a start on your holiday shopping by shopping your local Newton area retailers! This special event will feature in-store specials, holiday treats, a strolling Santa, and story times with Santa on Saturday, at Choices book store at 1pm, and Mattingly’s Music and Books on Sunday at 1pm. Santa will be in the downtown both days from 12-2pm. Make sure to bring the whole family out as the Iowa Speedway Pace Car will be on the southwest corner of the square giving away some fun goodies, and there will be live holiday music on Saturday from the local Children’s Choir from 2-3pm! In honor of Veteran’s Day you can enjoy a 10% discount if you show your military ID at participating retailers! The Skiff Hospital Gift Shop will be open for the open house on Saturday only, from 10am-4pm; they sell many unique gift items! So much fun and a great way to celebrate the holidays and shop local! FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24th – JASPER COUNTY COURTHOUSE LIGHTING & GREATER NEWTON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 13TH ANNUAL LIGHTED HOLIDAY PARADE

The theme this year is “Christmas Around the World” and features parade floats and entries based on the idea of multi-cultural celebrations around the world! The parade starts at 6:00 PM immediately after the Lighting of the Courthouse. The evening includes lights, music and so much more. There will be food vendors, a DJ playing holiday favorites, carriage rides and a photo booth.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24 – WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6 – JASPER COUNTY LIGHT FIGHT

The Young Professionals of Jasper County will also host the first annual “Jasper County Light Fight” – a holiday lights display competition that will see businesses/organizations and residents compete for the title of cheeriest display. Beginning November 24, community members will also be able to join in on the fun by going to the Young Professionals of Jasper County Facebook page to access the Jasper County Light Fight map and vote for their favorite light display. There is no fee to enter, and no dollar limit to displays. We only ask that your displays be visible from the street, family friendly, and neighborly. Please avoid blinding your neighbors with floodlights or deafening them with high volume renditions of Jingle Bell Rock.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25 – NEWTON MAIN STREET’S SHOP SMALL SATURDAY

Newton Main Street District retailers and restaurants have joined forces to celebrate Small Business Saturday with Newton Main Street’s Shop Small holiday retail promotion. The promotion showcases the Main Street District as a holiday shopping destination and features cash coupons from participating district businesses.
