You already know about the selection of books, movies, and music available at the Newton Public Library, but you might be surprised to learn what else the library has to offer. We’ve compiled a list of the top ten unexpected services that you can access with your library card. Homebound Reader Service
This free program is specifically designed for those who are confined to their homes by an illness, disability, mobility impairment, or injury. The program is available to meet both temporary and long term needs, and is easy to use. Homebound readers request the books and materials they want, then a volunteer delivers the book right to the door!

Die Cutter
The Newton Public Library is the central Iowa libraries hub for die cut shapes. Available shapes include letters, numbers, animals, and many more! Use of the die cut shapes and machine is free, just bring the paper you would like to use.

Digital Archives
One of the most recent additions is the online Jasper County history archive. This free archive contains hundreds of historic books, photographs, and documents; all accessible from your home computer! To visit the archive, navigate to the library website at then click on the research tab at the top of the screen.

Free Music Downloads
Library cardholders may download up to five free songs every week from our music database, Freegal. Freegal contains music from over 28,000 labels and downloads are yours to keep! Access through the library website at

Notary Service
The library offers free notary services during most open hours. Contact the library at 641-792-4108 for the daily notary schedule.

Tech Appointments
Need a little help getting started with your new tablet? The library offers one-on-one appointments for downloading eBooks, using online databases, and navigating the library catalog. Additional basic computer assistance may also be available upon request.

Test Proctoring
The library provides free exam proctoring for all Newton Public Library cardholders. Contact Public Services Librarian, Becca Klein, at 641-792-4108 to make an appointment.

Book Bundles
Book bundles for children are now available for check out. These bundles include a mix of library materials highlighting a variety of topics and provide a selection of materials designed to teach young readers about shapes, colors, and more!

Programs for All Ages
Many local children take advantage of the library’s great programming, but did you know the library offers a variety of free events for all ages? Teens and adults can catch a yoga class, learn to paint, or have their resume professionally edited at the library! Pick up a copy of the monthly event calendar at the library, or follow the library on Facebook for updates on programs and events.

Material Requests
Didn’t find what you were looking for? Newton residents with library cards may request books and DVDs through the library. There is no charge for requesting new materials. Just stop at the information desk or call 641-792-4108 and tell us which items you would like to request.
